Hotels: Oklahoma City Hotels And Motels

The first time I visited Oklahoma City in the 1980s, I have to admit that I was underwhelmed. I didnt feel there was much to do, and apart from some Art Deco architecture, I found little to distinguish it from any other Midwest city. But it has gone through a major renaissance over the past decade.
People often associate Oklahoma City with the 95 bombing. However, the one silver lining on this very dark event is that it forced the city to renew its image and take steps towards bringing back tourism and business. A lot of money has been poured into the city as a result. The newly-renovated Myriad Convention Center, along with a bunch of new hotels and restaurants, has helped O.C. regain its status. This is a reasonably priced place, which is reflected in the hotel rates: average hotels range between $45 to $85. The money you save here should definitely be spent on a mouthwatering meal; this is one of the top steak cities in America. If you prefer your livestock alive and kicking, I highly recommend checking out at least one honest-to-goodness rodeo in your lifetime, and believe me, this is the city to see one in.
Good News for Collectors
Oklahoma City is also an antique collectors dream. Theres the AMC Flea Market Mall with over 600 booths, enough to keep you busy for days. Another must-see is Rodeo Theatre Antiques. The building itself has as much history as the things for sale inside. It was built in 1912 as community center, and gave out free food during the Depression. Then, from 1925 through 1969, it served as a local cinema. Today, it houses the largest western vintage-collectible store in Oklahoma, including Native American art and photos of bygone cowboy movie stars.
After seeing the citys revived spirit and the strides that businesses and residents have taken towards revitalization, I have eaten my words. Oklahoma City has everything you could want in a vacation or business destination. There is cutting-edge and classic architecture, great food, warm people, and lots of culture and events to choose from.

Philadelphia combines all the advantages of East Coast living–culture, history, and nightlife–with the added benefits of comparative affordability. An easy train, bus or car trip from New York makes Philly a good destination for a day trip or a vacation from nearby areas. Enthusiasts of American history flock here every year.
A History Buffs Dream
Philadelphia was the location of many of the nations most important events, such as the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Independence Hall, the Betsy Ross House, and the Liberty Bell are all downtown within walking distance of each other, and Valley Forge is another nearby destination.
But outside the usual tourist attractions, Philly is fantastic place to find antiques, shop, dine, and browse. A fairly walkable city, it nonetheless has a reliable and safe public transportation system and plenty of cabs. Philadelphia prices are not very expensive, so you should have plenty of money left over for food. The cheesesteak is a mainstay of the local diet, and you would be remiss not to try at least a few varieties from different vendors. Philadelphia offers a lot of alternatives for after-hours. You can find a huge variety of live music, excellent cuisine and bars around town. South Street is the most well-known area in Philly, but Old City and Center City are also fun places to go, and if youre looking for clubs, check out Delaware Avenue.
Being a major metropolitan center, lodging in this city ranges from basic to world-class depending on the area. Hotels in Philly are priced around $60 to $100, which is reasonable, at least compared to the rates of nearby New York City. You may want to use a travel website to find the best deals. Overall, youll find that Philadelphia has everything you could want in a major city without all the congestion, expense and noise.

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is a blue collar town known for its steel mills and football fans. Located in western Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh lies by the Allegheny, Monongahela, and Ohio rivers. It is relatively inexpensive here, with hotel prices averaging between $50 and $85.
This will leave you some extra cash for sightseeing. But if youre renting a car, know that this city has lots of bridges: lovely if you know where youre going, but difficult navigate if youre new to the city. Its fairly compact, so you can walk from downtown to the Strip District. You can get by without a car, but youll have to take a lot of cabs and buses.
If you find yourself able to spend some time here, check out the Carnegie Science Center, located right next to Three Rivers Stadium. Or, if you want to be part of the bustling local scene, Station Square is a popular shopping area; with lots of good restaurants, it can make a nice pit-stop in the middle of other activities. Got kids, or just want to act like one? If youre into roller coasters and amusement parks, you might enjoy Kennywood Park, just east of Pittsburgh.
Pittsburghs Nightlife
Pittsburghs got a decent nightlife scene. If you like college bars, Oakland is going to be your best bet. If you want to drink and hang out at a bar, South Side is where you want to head. Of course, the city is filled with sports bars, and youll never be without the opportunity to catch a game on a local tavern television. Autumn comes alive for the Steelers season, and if youre rooting for an opposing team, youre advised to keep it to yourself until youre out of the city.
